The Telkom Era
The competition was established in 1982/83 and has operated under numerous names and sponsors over its history, including the Datsun Challenge, the JPS Knockout Cup, the Coca-Cola Cup, the Rothmans Cup, and then the Telkom Knockout from 2006 until 2020.The competition includes all 16 Premiership clubs and is played as a straight knockout.
Mamelodi Sundowns have won the competition twice in the Telkom Knockout era: in 2014/15 and 2018/19. Sundowns last won the competition in 2019, before it was paused.
