A Historic First In Africa

The African Football League (AFL) was a continental men’s club competition organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). It was initially announced in 2019 by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and formally launched in 2022, originally under the name the Africa Super League.

Mamelodi Sundowns won the inaugural and only edition of the African Football League in 2023, defeating Wydad AC of Morocco in the final, winning 2–1 in the first leg away before winning 2–0 at home to claim the title on aggregate.
