CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

CAF CHAMPIONS
LEAGUE

2016 & 2026. The First & Second Stars.

organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Mamelodi Sundowns have won the CAF Champions League twice. The first title came in 2016, when they beat Egypt’s Zamalek 3–1 on aggregate, having won the first leg 3–0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The second arrived a decade later, in May 2026, with a 2–1 aggregate victory over AS FAR of Morocco — an Aubrey Modiba free kick settling the first leg 1–0 at a sold-out Loftus Versfeld before a 1–1 draw in Rabat, where Teboho Mokoena scored and Ronwen Williams saved a second-half penalty.

They are one of only two South African clubs to have won the competition, and the only one to have won it more than once. The 2026 title also earned Sundowns a place in the 2026 CAF Super Cup, the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.
