The Betway Premiership, commonly referred to as the PSL (after its governing body, the Premier Soccer League), is the top tier of South African club football. It has been organised since 1996. The league’s naming rights have changed several times through sponsorship — it has been known as the ABSA Premiership, the DStv Premiership, and since 2024, the Betway Premiership.

Mamelodi Sundowns are the most successful club in the league’s history, with a record 15 Premiership titles since 1996. Counting the three national championships won before the PSL era, the club has been crowned champions of South Africa on 18 occasions. Their most recent run brought eight consecutive titles — 2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2024/25 — the longest championship streak in South African football history.
